The December season is filled with joy, gratitude, and hopefulness. As with everything, there is also an opposite to these feelings of merriment. Challenges such as grief, concern, and loneliness also come up during this season. We do not need to repress these feelings just because this is a season of good tidings. Feelings come in waves, both joyous and challenging ones.

It is important for us to remember the love that we have had in our lives, to grieve any loss that you may feel, to recognize concern for the unknown, and acknowledge feelings of loneliness. Remembering these things and people does not mean that you are neglecting the excitement of the season. It means that you are accepting another part of it. What we have experienced in the past is imperative to our ability to look forward to an even brighter future. Be kind to yourself and don’t forget that a bright future does not always come all at once. It requires the belief that good things will come your way and recognition that there will be other challenging times ahead. We encourage you to lean on your strengths. If you are not sure what they are, spend some time reflecting on what they could be and hold that in your heart.

It can be easier to reflect on the challenges and the negatives; however, Pacific Coast Psychology encourages you to be open to the possibilities of what this holiday season could bring. In the coming days take time to look at where you have been, the love you have in your life, and where you hope to go next. Cherish all of the memories you have, even the challenging ones.
